CHAPTER ONE: My new home

The vast country side was beautiful.  that was the first thing I noticed about Scotland when I first arrived her nearly an hour ago.  Beautiful landscape, beautiful buildings, beautiful...everything.  I sighed, watching everything fly by out of the car window.
"Dad, are we home yet?" I heard my nine-year-old cousin, Tony, whine impatiently from the backseat of the mini van.
"Almost..." Uncle Bob replied for just about the hundredth time in the last ten minutes.  I smiled slightly.  Tony had been asking his dad that question ever since we got into the vehicle after they picked me up from the airport.
"Good," was all Tony said as he, too, stared out the car window.  I began wondering what his big hurry was,but I convinced myself that he just had to go to the bathroom really badly.  A few minutes passed in silence until the sound of gravel crunching under tires could be heard.  We were here.  Once we got to the end of the driveway, Uncle Bob turned the car off and turned his head to look at me, grinning at the awstruck look on my face.
"So, Lylie, what do you think?" he chuckled.
My eyes widened as I looked out the windsheild and up at the huge stone house infront of us.  "Wow." I laughed, unbuckling my seat belt without taking my eyes off the small castle.  I hadn't realized that Tony had gotten out of the  mini-van until I saw him dash up to the front door, and beckon me to follow before running into the house.
"Well, why don't you go ahead and go inside.  I'll bring your things in."  Uncle Bob told me as we got out of the car, and he walked to the back.
"Okay, thanks." I said, making my way up the cobblestone walkway and to the front door.  Before I could even step halfway over the threshold, I was nearly tackled in a hug by my lovely Aunt Dottie.
"Oh, Lylie, it's so great to see you!" she squealed excitedly, squeezing me tightly.
"Hey Aunt Dottie!" I exclaimed, hugging her back.  She pulled back and looked at me.
"You've grown so much since the last time I've seen you," she commented.  I laughed happily at her cliche words.
"Well, I sure do hope so.  It's been, what, two years since we've seen each other?"  I thought out loud.
"At least that long." Aunt Dottie agreed.  "Well, c'mon in sweet heart, I'll show you to your room," she said, pulling me into the house.  The inside was really nice, The air smelled like cookies fresh from the oven, and it instantly gave me a feeling of warmth and safety, of love.  Aunt Dottie led me further into the living room area to a staircase off to the side that we climbed up.  At the top of the staircase, there was a hallway on either side.  We turned to the left and continued down the hall until we got to the very end.  "This is your room, right across from Tony's room." she pointed to the door on the right side of the hallway.  "I'll let you check it out.  If you need me, I'll be downstairs." Aunt Dottie told me with a smile.
"Okay, thanks." I said, hugging her again. She gave me a nod, before padding off down the hall to the stairs.  I turned around, facing the bedroom door.
"Oh, hey Lylie?" I heard Aunt Dottie ask from the top step.
"Yeah?"  I responded.
"Welcome home."
I nodded, a small hint of a smile on my face.  Taking a deep breath, I reached my hand out to the door knob, gripping it firmly.  Closing my eyes, I turned the knob as far as it would let me, and pushed.  The door opened with a barely audible creak, and I took my first step into the room.  I slowly opened my eyes.  "Oh wow." I whispered.
The first thing I saw was the open window across from the bed on the other side of the room.  The white lace curtains were drawn back, giving a really amazing view of the countryside and the blue, cloudless, spring sky above it, and wind was blowing into the room every so often.  The bed was covered in a white and light blue bedspread that matched the curtains, with two, large, puffy, white pillows leaning against the oak headboard.
"Wow," I repeated, gently falling onto the end of the bed and laying down, my legs dangling off the edge.  This is so nice,   I thought, looking around the rest of the room.  Next to the bed was a small nightstand, a closet at the far end of the room, and a dresser.  The walls of the room were painted a very light blue, and there were stinsels of butterflies painted in certain spots.  I can't believe they did this all for me,  I thought again.
"Lylie?"  I heard my name.  I shot up to find Uncle Bob coming into the room with the only box I brought from California.  That's all I really had anyway.
"Yeah?" I smiled.
"Where do you want me to set this down?"
"Oh, anywhere's fine." I answered, jumping off the bed and bounding towards Uncle Bob.  Once he set down the box, I gave him a big hug.  "Thank you so much!"
"Your welcome, Lyles." He kissed the top of my head.  "You deserve it." he nodded.  "I'm gonna go back downstairs and help Dottie with dinner.  It should be done soon, so we'll call you down when its ready."
"Alright, thankyou." I said as he left the room.  It was like I couldn't say it enough. But in reality, I really couldn't.  What they were doing for me was more than they had to do.   Letting me live with them was probably the last thing I could have asked for.  They were the best...no joke. So was Tony.  That boy was the sweetest little cousin you could ever have.
"Hey Tony?"  I called, exiting my new bedroom and going across the hall.  Tony's door was open, and I could see him inside.  He was sitting on a large red box-chest thingy at the foot of his bed, looking out his window, a disappointed and sad look on his little face.  "Tony?" I placed my hand on his shoulder.
"Hi Lylie." he said softly, turning towards me.
"What's wrong little guy?" I wondered out loud.  He shrugged, looking down at the ground.  "Oh, c'mon.  You should be happy.  Your awesome cousin just came to live with you!" I poked him in his side. He giggled.
"Really, who?" he joked, laughing.  My jaw dropped, causing him to laugh harder.  I should have seen that coming.  The little dude was smart.
"Think that was funny, did you?"  I smirked.  He nodded, beaming up at me.  "Oh, you're in for it now." I launched forward, tickling him.
"Stop, stop!"  he begged, laughing to the point where he was almost crying.
"Okay, okay..." I obliged, picking him up and sitting him on my lap.
"So, why are you living with us now?" Tony asked out of nowhere.  I considered a right way to tell him without worrying him.  My eyebrows knitted together.  "You can tell me the truth." he said, obviously noticing the look on my face.
"Well, Tony..." I began, "you see, I used to live with grandma, but I can't live with her anymore because...well...she's too old."  I explained.  "She's getting really weak and she has to live with people who can take care of her."
"So she was put in a home, right?"
Woah, how does he know all this?  I thought.  "Yes, she was.  And I can't live with her anymore, and I can't live by myself, so...that's why your mom and dad agreed to take me in."  I finished.
"Oh." Tony stated.  "I'm glad your here, then." he grinned.  I squeezed him tightly.
"Me too." I whispered as he hugged back.
"Hey kids, it's time to eat!" Uncle Bob called from somewhere in the house.  Tony and I both looked at each other, smirking.
"Race ya!" we both shouted at the same time, dashing out into the hall.  I stopped at the bottom of the stairs, looking around the house.  This was it.  I was really starting over.  This was really it. I'd be living here with my aunt uncle, and cousin now.  I had no problem with that, of course I didn't. Aunt Dottie and Uncle Bob had always been like a second pair of parents to me.  And I knew that my grandmother was in good care now.   Everything now was great.  I was going to be fine.  This...was it.   My new home.
WooHoo, I finally found time to put this up! It's the first chapter of my new story I'm writing about The Little Vampire. Well, technically, its about Gregory Sacville-Bagg's love life with Tony's cousin. I hope its good. I don't own the characters, except for Lylie.
